Katrina Kaif is not a fun person. She takes life very seriously and doesn’t indulge in any kind of frivolous behaviour.
But once in a while Katrina likes to let the world know she is still a young beautiful ….errr…single woman who is capable of being as bindaas, bold and brazen as ….say, Anushka Sharma. When Katrina came on Koffee With Karan (KWK) this Sunday she played the extrovert, barging into her colleagues reverie and remarks (apparently Anushka “zones out” during conversations) mid-sentence, playing verbal pranks and throwing mock-tantrums about everything from Karan Johar’s invasive questions to the décor of the KWK set.
Anushka too joined in to rib Johar mercilessly about how he touched Anushka “inappropriately” during the shooting of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Karan looked too amused to be scandalized. Must say though Karan touched all of us inappropriately with that film.
Anushka wondered aloud why men would take off their shirts for any other reason except to take a shower. Like I said, this was an evening of utter banality.
Katrina was determined to be cool and sassy on Karan’s show. She was voluble without giving away anything.This is an art form, mastered by very few, and we must congratulate Katrina for getting there.
While we searched for a true meeting-ground for the couched bonding between Sharma and Kaif (and we came away unconvinced by the authenticity of the twosome’s camaraderie) Katrina did drop a few revelatory gems. For example, we didn’t know that Varun Dhawan had been pulled up for severe censure by Salman Khan .
Reason? The inquisitive boy that he was, Varun was caught—and I quote Katrina—“checking out” (meaning,ogling) Katrina while strolling down Bandra Bandstand.
Now, which teenager would actually check out Salman Khan’s girlfriend unless he was in a suicidal mood? Katrina also revealed how she had once offered to tie a raksha bandhan on Akshay Kumar who retorted by telling her she had lost it.
Even we felt the same watching her whoop it up so frantically on KWK. This was a Katrina who wanted to be seen as friendly…the Kala Chashma girl as out of her depths on Karan’s show as she was in that silly song in the film Baar Baar Dekho. Anushka, on the other hand was uncharacteristically restrained. She gave away nothing. And made no pretence of doing otherwise.
The conversation was inane and unproductive. At some point Arjun Kapoor joined the two lovely ladies. Alas, his presence added no sense to a talk-show episode that hovered on being a bak-bak binge bordering on bakwaas.
