In the cut-throat TV industry, where actors work under the pressure of deadlines with the onus of delivering a hit show, it is not surprising that problems crop up. They could be due to ego hassles, immense competition or creative differences. The fight between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover is the latest and the latter is said to have quit Kapil’s show. It’s not the first time either. Earlier, too, Sunil had quit Comedy Nights With Kapil to do another show Mad In India. This time, however, things are different as Kapil hurled abuses at him on a flight while returning from Australia. Now, how this plays out remains to be seen. Meanwhile, we give you other instances when actors have got into fights with their producers or co-actors...

Show: Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
Who: Ekta Kapoor and Smriti Irani

Ekta and Smriti came together for what would become a trendsetter of saas bahu sagas. Smriti became popular as Tulsi Virani in the serial that went on for eight years. However, towards the end, Smriti opted out of the show due to differences with Ekta, apparently because the actress got busy with her own production Viruddh. She was replaced by Gautami Kapoor, but after eight months Ekta and Smriti patched up at an awards function, and the latter was back to reprise her role as Tulsi.

Incidentally, Ekta has had a fallout with several of her actors from Amar Upadhyay to Pulkit Samrat (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) — the latter went to court for non-payment of dues — and Rajeev Khandelwal (Kahin Toh Hoga), to name a few.

Show: Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai
Who: Producer Binaifer Kohli and Shilpa Shinde

Shilpa played Angoori Bhabhi in this comedy show that became the channel driver of &TV. However, a year or so later, Shilpa quit the show over lack of pay hike and problems with Binaifer who she claimed, harassed her on the sets. Binaifer on her part said they had already increased her remuneration twice and filed a complaint against Shilpa with Cine and TV Artists Association, which ordered the actress to start shooting for the show. However, she refused and has since been banned from doing any other TV shows.

Show: Nagarjuna Ek Yoddha
Who: Producer Yash Patnaik and  Nikitin Dheer

Barely two months after the serial started, Nikitin Dheer who was playing the antagonist Astika quit the show because he “felt cheated”. The actor was miffed with the producers because he felt they were under-utilising him. In an interview, he said that he was neither the hero or the villain of the show, but reduced to just another character. Producer Yash reacted to it saying Nikitin did not know the ways of the TV industry. Before long, the two resolved their differences and Nikitin was back in the show.

Show: Diya Aur Baati Hum
Who: Deepika Singh and Anas Rashid

Deepika and Anas’s sweet chemistry was the highlight of the top-rated show. However, all was not well between the two, which came to light when Deepika during a scene slapped Anas because he held her inappropriately. There was talk of Anas being replaced in the show but CINTAA (The Cine and TV Artistes Association) intervened in the matter, and the two sorted out their differences. The duo was back to playing Sooraj and Sandhya in the serial.

Show: Comedy Nights With Kapil
Who: Raj Nayak, CEO, Colors and Kapil Sharma

It started out as a dream team. While Colors gave a platform to Kapil to produce his comedy show, the talented stand-up comic proved to be a hit with the viewers. The show scored big on the ratings charts and Shah Rukh Khan even talked about buying the show from Kapil! The who’s who of B-Town appeared as guests on the show to promote their films. The magic continued for over a year and in the meantime Kapil started hosting events and award shows. He even got offers for films — YRF had offered him Bank Chor — but he couldn’t do it as he was busy with the show. Soon, whispers of disagreement between him and the channel started doing the rounds.

It was over the show’s periodicity —Kapil wanted the bi-weekly to be a weekly — remuneration, etc. The channel introduced another comedy show Comedy Nights Bachao which didn’t go down well with Kapil. Finally, the two parted ways and Kapil took his show to Sony. However, it was made clear to him that he cannot use the popular characters of Gutthi and Palak of CNWK or dress them in a similar manner in his new show.
