Four months and hardly three films which worked wonders at the box office. Come May and the statistics seem to change. With one huge disaster like Bombay Velvet on one side, the month has seen three big films bringing an end to the commercial drought at the box office. While Akshay Kumar's Gabbar is Back became the highest opener of 2015, it was Deepika Padukone-Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku which came across as the surprise hit. And now Tanu Weds Manu Returns has yet again hit a home run.

Two Kangana Ranauts meant double the fun. Indeed! With sparkling performances and a sweet plot line, TWMR has won everyone's hearts. Positive critics and most importantly a good word of mouth has ensured a steady income for the film. After staring around the Rs 8.75 crore mark, the film grew strongly on its second day, taking the two day total to Rs 21.85 crore. But the film saw huge footfalls on Sunday and earned around Rs 16.25 crore, which is a humongous figure for the small budgeted women oriented film.

With that, the opening weekend collections of the film stands at a whopping Rs 38.10 crore, which is only a few crore away from Akshay's Gabbar is Back which raked in around Rs 40 crore in the first three days. But while the Akki starrer failed to maintain momentum, Deepika's Piku held on to its grounds and is still going strong. With collections of over Rs 75 crore already, it is racing towards the Rs 100 crore mark.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns, too is high on content and performances and has a strong recall value to it. The feel good film might also work well in the weekdays and if it holds on decently on the weekdays, this sure has chances to beat Queen's box office collections and might also give competition to the collections of Piku
