She’s just returned to Mumbai from Hyderabad where she had gone for the release of her debut Telugu film Kanche. Model and actress Pragya Jaiswal says she’s really happy with the response of the audience and critics to her film.

“When I got Kanche with director Krish I was really excited. After auditioning for it, I had a gut feeling that I would bag the role. In fact, I watched his films Vedam and Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum. I was really touched by Vedam,” says the pretty actress. “I never thought I’ll end up becoming an actress. I’m still coming to terms with it!”

Pragya has been applauded by critics and the audience for playing the role of Seetha Devi in Krish’s war drama Kanche. The actress, who has a law degree from Symbiosis Law School in Pune, says she took to modelling during college as it was fun and good pocket money.

“I was trying to discover myself and see what I wanted to do in the long-run so I took up modelling on the side. I come from a family which stresses on education and modelling was a world they didn’t understand. It took my parents a while to come to terms with my career in modelling and acting but they are extremely supportive. They trust me to make god decisions,” says Pragya.

So what did her parents say when they watched Kanche? “My younger sister, Pranjul, called me from Pune when they were watching Kanche. My mom, dad and she were all crying. They couldn’t believe that they were actually seeing me on screen. Mom said they never imagined I could actually perform and be a part of a credible big film. It was a very emotional moment,” she says.

Pragya had initially auditioned for Krish’s Hindi film Gabbar is Back but didn’t bag the role. However, she has no regrets and says, “I don’t take these things extremely personally. As a model, this happens on an everyday basis. I didn’t take it to heart. I just felt it wasn’t for me. I just focus on what’s next.”

There are rumours doing the rounds that director AR Murugadoss had approached her for his film with Mahesh Babu. “It would be a dream come true but sadly no one has called me till now! I hope this rumour has some credibility,” laughs Pragya.

So what next for her?

“The audience has accepted me beautifully thanks to Kanche. I have started my acting career so well so now I need to live up to it. I have some offers in Telugu and Hindi. I just need to figure out what scripts suit me. I am now only focussed on films. Modelling my first love but acting is my true love,” signs off Pragya.
