'Kanchana 2', 'OK Kanmani' rock the box office this week

Mani Ratnam has returned to form with his latest hit OK Kanmani. The film starring Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menon grossed Rs.14.3 crore in its first four days at the box office. 

Mani Ratnam's last two films Kadal and Raavan did not do well at the box office. It also prompted critics to say that Ratnam had lost his touch with the sweeping romantic films that he is so famous for. With OK Kanmani, the filmmaker has proved critics wrong and renewed faith among his fans.

But, the real juggernaut at the box office in South India has been Raghav Lawrence's Kanchana 2 which saw huge success in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The film made Rs.10.83 crore within two days of its release in Tamil Nadu, according to Indian Express.

The film is a horror comedy and part of the Kanchana franchise. It stars Taapsee Pannu, Nitya Menen and Kovai Sarla. 

Trade analyst Trinath told IANS that despite the massive success of the Kanchana 2, OK Kanmani has managed to find favour with the multiplex audiences.
