British actor Jude Law has revealed that he used to regret changing his name from David, as he was often mistaken for a girl with his current name.

The actor, who was born David Law, began using his famous moniker as a stage name when he enrolled with a youth drama group in London in the 1980s.

And Law admits he had to toughen up – because his feminine name would often lead to confusion.

"(I was) assigned to the girls' dormitories and sleeping quarters when I was a teenager, and I joined the National Youth Music Theatre," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

"Someone took a look at my name and clearly thought, 'It has to be a girl.' How wrong can you get?" he added.
