Jaya and me have been together for 40 years now, says Amitabh Bachchan

Recalling his wedding 40 years ago, megastar Amitabh Bachchan today said that it seemed like "just the other evening" when Jaya and he decided to tie the knot in a simple ceremony.

"40 years! 40 years of marriage on the 3rd of June 2013 ! Jaya and I in marriage for 40 years! A lifetime almost!," Bachchan, 70 wrote on his blog.

The actor, who married Jaya back in June 1973 thanked almighty for blessing him with a large and loving family with his wife that includes two children, three grand children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and relatives.

"Seems like just the other evening I had driven with my parents to a friends place on Malabar Hill, in the Southern region of the city, and to a very quick, no fuss, no 'taam jhaam', family and a few friends, and a few close media, wedding.

"A wedding that had the fulfilment of a promise, that if 'Zanjeer' succeeded we would get married! Here we are now, two children and three grand children, son in law, daughter in law, relatives and 'samdhi's' in our family fold. God has been very kind!," Bachchan added.

Jaya first appeared with Bachchan in the film, Bansi Birju in 1972 followed by BR Ishara's Ek Nazar in the same year. The duo then worked in Zanjeer and decided that if the film would do well they would marry.

The real-life couple then went on to do films like Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke and Sholay together.

The couple have two children, Shweta Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan. Shweta is the elder, and is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda. She has a daughter and son.

While Abhishek is married to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. They have a 18-month-old daughter named Aaradhya.
