When Nakash Aziz went behind the mic to belt out Fan’s title track Jabra Fan, the only image he had in his mind was that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. “I visualised him going out on the field and hitting a six on the last ball. I knew I had to hit a six, too,” says the 30-year-old singer. From the response, one can safely say he’s hit the ball out of the field!
“I gave the song my 200 per cent and the response has been unreal,” says Nakash. It’s the second time he’s sung for Shah Rukh Khan, after sung a small part for the superstar in Tukur Tukur for Dilwale. “In the recent past I have sung for Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Ali Khan, Salman Khan and SRK. If somebody had told me seven or eight years ago that I would be singing for these stalwarts I would have told them to take someone’s case,” the boy from Mangalore guffaws.
With songs such as Sari Ke Fall Sa, Dhating Naach, Gandi Baat, Dekhega Raja Trailer, Selfie Le le and now Jabra Fan in his kitty, doesn’t he fear being slotted as the tapori singer? On the contrary, Nakash says he’s grateful to music composer Pritam for helping him bring out the tapori in him. “I take some time opening up when I meet new people, so this is a very good channel for me to bring out my fun side,” he smiles.
At the same time, Nakash points out that it isn’t easy singing these type of songs. “No matter what is happening in your life, you have to go out there and have fun while singing the song. When you go to any social outing, these are the songs that people dance to. I feel blessed that I get to sing the kind of songs that cheer people up. I don’t think there is anything wrong in being slotted. I hope to have a long life and once I have mastered these kind of songs, I can move on to the romantic space,” he laughs.
