Ever since his debut in Aa Dinagalu, Chetan has been waiting for ‘the’ opportunity that would change his run-in with unsuccessful films. Be it Birugaali, Suryakanthi or Dashamukha — he never quite hit the spot as far as the films’ fates were concerned.

And as Myna prepares for its release this Friday, the actor is quite optimistic of his future and the fact that it’s been five years since Aa Dinagalu won his appreciation doesn’t trouble him much. Myna, the film that brings Veerappan back into the limelight for the second time this month is about a real life incident that occurred during the ongoing operations that led to the capture of the notorious smuggler.

“I have given this film all the effort I can. I don’t think I will be deprived of success this time,” says Chetan, with a smile. Referring to his debut, Chetan says that Aa Dinagalu was relatively easier because, “I met people who were connected with the incidents Aa Dinagalu was based on. However with Myna, it was difficult. I had to struggle to meet the director’s expectations because I couldn’t meet the people on whom the story of Myna is based,” he adds. But it was a memorable shoot, the actor recalls. “A stunt sequence is going to remain in my memory for a long time. We were shooting near Doodh Sagar, near Belgaum. We were in a place surrounded by rocks. I had to chase the villain and his henchman and that too, barefoot. My feet were bleeding and I was in a lot of pain. But the result was extremely satisfying when we saw the sequence on the screen later,” he says.

He must be relying quite a bit on the film, we ask. “I have a lot of hope riding on this film. Myna has all the ingredients required to entertain different kinds of audiences. Given that it’s not aimed at a particular segment, I am quite confident that it will do well at the box office,” Chetan says.

While rumours claim that many filmmakers from the Kannada film industry have avoided casting Chetan for a while, and that his other film Mareyalaare is yet to see the light of day, it’s also been said that the actor too chooses to work in very few films. “I am not interested in doing whatever film comes my way. I want to act in films that can help me establish my career in Sandalwood,” he signs off.
