For me, fitness is not about being slim or slender. It comprises overall health — both mental and physical. My fitness regime consists of a mix of exercises. I do pilates, calisthenics and yoga. But I shoot most of the days and don’t get much time to do all of it. So, on the days I shoot, I run on the treadmill for a few minutes and do yoga. Most importantly, I follow a proper diet.

Going outdoors
Given a choice, I would love to indulge in outdoor activities. In fact, whenever I get a couple of days off, I just take my backpack and go trekking with my friends. I also love playing badminton.
The three principles of fitness that I follow include eating in right proportions, drinking a lot of water and de-stressing through yoga.

It’s an ambition
I am not much of a runner and have never participated in a marathon, but it’s my ambition to take time off and take part in one. I am inspired by a friend of mine who has participated and won several marathons.

Center of society
A woman is the center of a family — in fact, in schools are we taught that she is the center of the society. She has so many responsibilities — taking care of children, husband, and today most of them follow their own careers. She is multitasking all the time.  Plus, she goes through hormonal changes at different stages in her life. It is important that she keep herself fit.

Just exercise
My mother, at the age of 57, has started working out. She goes for a walk in the morning, does aerobics and has been learning Bharatnatyam for the past six years. Women should realise that after they cross the age of 40-50, hormonal changes occur and they tend to get depressed. To avoid this, they should make it a point to do some exercises. The DNA iCan Women’s Half Marathon is a wonderful initiative towards that. It encourages women to exercise and instills the positive spirit in them.

A message to men
Men should respect women and give them the freedom to enjoy living throughout the year. Instead of her fighting for her rights and celebrating this one day.
