Sanjay Dutt’s comeback movie Bhoomi has been announced as has the release date: August 4. However, even though one expects some hype to precede the release of the film, Dutt won’t be arriving solo. He will have Aamir Khan for company as he makes a special appearance in Secret Superstar, which has been slated to arrive on the same date.

Not on same scale

“This is not a clash on the scale of, let’s say, a Raees and Kaabil. But, at the end of the day it is the coming together of two heavyweights on the same day,” says a trade expert, adding “Both films would be looked at quite keenly.”

Ironically, the last time Sanjay Dutt was seen on screen, it was in PK. That film had him in a special appearance while Aamir was the main lead. Now in August, the roles would be reversed for both the actors, albeit in different films.

“They both are also favourites of Raj Kumar Hirani and one waits to see if the filmmaker chips in to help avert this clash,” a Bollywood insider wonders, “He has made Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai with Dutt, while with Khan he has made 3 Idiots and PK. (with Sanjay Dutt in there as well). Maybe if he has a chat with them, one of the two films would move to a different date.”

While one waits to see that happen, the first step would be for director Omung Kumar to bring Bhoomi on floors.

Much can change

“As of now, the casting of the film is on,” our source adds, “So far, the two things that have been officially confirmed are the facts that Bhoomi would mark Dutt’s comeback on screen and the release date. As is the saying, there is many a slip between the sip and the lip. Both films are still more than six months away. Much can change in time to come.”

However, while one waits for that to happen, the fact still remains that both films are eyeing the same date. There isn’t much of a breathing space for either film to move. Mubarakan (July 28) and SRK-Anushka’s tentatively titled The Ring has already been announced.
