Not Kangana Ranaut, Shraddha Kapoor or Sonakshi Sinha, but Rakul Preet confirmed as legendary Sridevi in NTR biopic
Earlier we had informed you that the rumour mills had it that Aiyaary actress Rakul Preet Singh has probably been roped in to essay the role of late Sridevi in the NTR (NT Rama Rao) biopic.
And now we know for sure who will be stepping into the shoes of the veteran actress!
Yes! Not Vidya Balan or Kangana Ranaut or Shraddha Kapoor or Sonakshi Sinha, but actress Rakul Preet Singh will feature as the MOM actress in the biopic on late actor-filmmaker and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.
After Vidya Balan was signed for the role of NTR’s first wife Basavatarakam, Rakul has been roped for the actress who worked with the late superstar in more than 14 films, which played a key role in laying the foundation of her career.
This number includes hits such as Vetagaadu, Bobbili Puli, Justice Chowdhary and Kondaveeti Simham.
"Even though it is a small part in the biopic, Rakul is keen to play Sridevi. The makers have been in talks with her for long. Although Rakul has agreed to do the film in principle, she first needs to inform the producers of her other movies about this development. She will have to reshuffle her dates to accommodate the biopic before she can make a formal announcement about it," a source informed Mid-day.
Reports of Rakul being approached for the role was doing rounds since quite sometime and the actress was elated to be part of the project, however the date clash was a problem, and so names of actresses such as Kangana, Shraddha and Sonakshi were cropping up.
The reasons for the new names could be the fact that Shraddha has forayed into South with Prabhas-starrer Saaho and has even learnt Telugu for the film, while Kangana is being directed by NTR biopic helmer Krish in Manikarnika- The Queen of Jhansi.
But things have settled and are holding a steady ground now, as far as the cast is concerned.
In fact, one of the producers of the film, Vishnu Indukuri has confirmed to the tabloid that Rakul has been finalised for the role.
"We haven't approached Sonakshi, Kangana or Shraddha. Rakul Preet Singh is our only choice as she's popular in the South, especially in Telugu films. We have shot almost 30 per cent of the movie; Vidya has already shot for six days. We are working on Rakul's dates for now," said Vishnu, as quoted by Deccan Chronicle.
The actress, however, is yet to sign the dotted owing to her busy schedule.
“Rakul would love to do the role as she's a big Sridevi fan. But she hasn't discussed the details of the film yet with the team, as she's busy shooting for four films. She needs to figure out her dates for the biopic," her spokesperson said as quoted by the daily.
Apart from this, Rakul has a bunch of other projects in her kitty.
She is a part of Suriya’s upcoming film in Tamil with Selvaraghavan named NGK.
Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film is slated for a Diwali release.
The actress is also part of Dev, that stars Suriya’s brother Karthi in the lead. The film is helmed by debutante Rajath Ravishankar.
Apart from these two films, Rakul Preet Singh is also part of an Ajay Devgn film in Bollywood.
