Disney star Zendaya Coleman is reportedly set to play leading lady in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Zendaya is credited as Michelle, a non-comicbook character who is described as one of the classmates of Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

According to TheWrap, the 'Shake It Up' star will actually play the long-time love interest of Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson.

Sony, as well as the representatives for Marvel, and the 19-year-old actress haven't given any comments regarding the reports.

Mary Jane was famously brought to life by Kirsten Dunst in the first Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as the titular hero.

The character was not included in The Amazing Spider-Man film series, since director Marc Webb wanted to focus on Parker's relationship with his high school girlfriend, Gwen Stacy.

In the upcoming solo film which is directed by Jon Watts from a script written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M Goldstein, Holland's Spider-Man will be back to his high-school roots.

The film also stars Robert Downey Jr, Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Michael Keaton, Logan Marshall-Green and Martin Starr.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will release on July 7, 2017.
