Has the Sabya-addict shifted her fashion loyalty to up-and-coming designer Shruti Sancheti? Of late the actress whose every red carpet appearance is mercilessly critiqued by the fashion police is seen in Shruti’s ethnic-inspired ensembles be it at the airport, in New York or at Siddhivinayak temple.
Perhaps it’s a smart move by the doe-eyed actress because her style sensibility seems to be on the same wavelength as Shruti’s.
“I was approached by Vidya three months ago. Her style is identical to mine. I’ve always had her as a muse in my mind.
She likes my aesthetic of weaves and surface ornamentation,” says Shruti.
Vidya had loved Sancheti’s Swadesi collection. “I had shared samples from my Saaz line and she picked an outfit from this line for India’s Independence Day in New York. In fact, she was the first one to wear that outfit and later we modified it for the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week.
She was not at all fussy and has an eye for textiles, weaves and crafts. Her brief to me was nothing over-the-top and restrained. She even liked my older look books and showed a penchant for timeless looks and rustic colours,” Shruti adds.
When asked if Vidya has dumped her all time fave Sabyasachi for her, Shruti says, “I don’t think anyone can stop wearing Sabya. She picked me because she likes to promote designers who use textiles and crafts and she is always on a look out for such talent.”
