SS Rajamouli's Baahubali is the third highest grosser ever in the history of Indian cinema. Now it looks like the film could be India's official official entry to the 88th Academy Awards.

The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has announced Baahubali: The Beginning as the official entry from the Telugu film industry for India's Oscar shortlist. The announcement of India's official entry will be made on September 25.

If selected, Baahubali will be the Telugu film industry's first Oscar entry in 29 years. The last Telugu film go to the Oscars was K Viswanath and Kamal Haasan‘s Swati Mutyam.

This year's Oscar film selection panel is headed by Amol Palekar. The panel will be shortlisting films from a list of 45 entries.
