The John-Varun starrer might just be a rebooted Akshay-Saif film

There are a lot of similarities between the due-for-release John Abraham-Varun Dhawan film Dishoom and the 1994 Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan action caper Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
In fact, a lot to suggest that one might be clearly inspired by the other. For one, both feature a male lead pair that shares a mentor-pupil like camaraderie. Both have their fair share of bromance and the older man is an unsmiling no-nonsense guy while the younger one is a jovial easy-going fun-loving flirt.
Says a source from the Dishoom team, “There are definite similarities between the two sets of characters. Add to that, even the female lead in Dishoom is similar to Main Khiladi Tu Anari’s. In the latter, Shilpa Shetty chased down the reluctant Akshay to get his attention. In Dishoom, Jacqueline Fernandes does exactly the same thing with John.”
Incidentally, John is a big Akshay Kumar fan. And so is director Rohit Dhawan. They all worked together in Desi Boyz. In fact, Dishoom was planned with the same team. But then, Rohit decided to cast his kid brother in the younger protagonist’s role.
