Three bands Daira, Paradigm Shift (PS) and Blakc had a unique triple-album launch at a show called Epic Shor. They tell us more about the experience and their upcoming albums.

What led you to Epic Shor?

Daira: Epic Shor came about when three independent bands, who are also good friends, decided to notch up the concept of album launch.

Blakc: This started out as a DIY gig, which meant the bands took charge to make a show happen. We all had albums coming out and wanted to give them the best launch platform. Doing a grand show made sense.

PS: Just the intent of all us coming together to release our albums sounded like a great thing to do.

What does your new album talk about?

Daira: Our third full-length Itni Jurrat? is a huge spectrum of emotions with some protest and existential rhetoric that has been expressed in the album. Some might find it dark.

Blakc: The Consequence of Feeling. When you feel something really powerfully, it consumes your mind and your life and you can’t stop thinking about it. Start to experience yourself and the world differently. All the songs are the cause and effect of our journey to make this album. Listeners will see the anger, chaos, pain, sadness and hope that one will inevitably go through if they want to do something meaningful.

PS: Sammukh talks about a journey that the protagonist here makes to reach the first album Coalescence. This album will not just take the protagonist but also take the listener on a sonic journey.

What do you think of the Indian rock/indie music scene currently?

Daira: It has always been about DIY efforts. As the definition and modus operandi of labels have drastically altered in the past few years, the bands have taken up the matter in their own hands and are going out of their way to be heard.

Blakc: Rock will never die as long as the bands don’t. It’s been growing dormant both globally and in India, but sometimes that’s just the calm before the shor

PS: With the quality of music being released by old and new artistes, the indie scene will grow and we hope our audience makes indie get mainstream!
