In what can be called a shocking twist of fate, 42 clerics have issued a fatwa against Indian Idol Junior 2015 runner-up Nahid Afrin. The fatwa has been issued, asking Nahid to stop performing in public.

According to reports, the fatwa has been issued against her keeping in view an upcoming event that was to be held on March 25. Since the venue of the event was in the vicinity of a mosque and a graveyard, the clerics have announced to boycott her singing programmes and have asked her to stop performing in public. The young singer was shocked when she first heard of the fatwa against her.

In an interview to SpotboyE, she said, "Last night, my father switched on one of the locals news channels and this news was being flashed as ‘breaking news’. When I saw that, I was in tears and began sobbing. Even my parents were crying looking at the news. Music is a harmless thing but I never knew my interest in it will get me such negative reactions. But then I thought that I should not bow down to anything. I thought about these legendary singers like Rafi sahab, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan sahab and many more. That gave me a lot of strength. Also, a lot of artistes called me up and encouraged me."

She also said that her family got affected by the news. "As I said, we all broke down on watching the news but later we composed ourselves. My father said that I should stand strong and fight this out.  He asked me to be brave."

And she has also decided to fight it out. "This has given me the strength and I will not quit music. In fact, I have become more determined," Nahid told the portal.
