IIFA UTSAVAM Awards 2016: 'Baahubali' and 'Ennu Ninte Moideen' sweep the awards

The first edition of the IIFA Utsavam kicked off with a big bang in Hyderabad at the Gachibowli stadium on Sunday, January 24. Honouring the South film industries, the award function is spread over two days. On Sunday, it was the Tamil and Malayalam film industries that were recognised for their tremendous work. 

Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan was the main guest at the awards night that saw numerous celebrities from the four south industries converge together under one roof. Kamal Haasan paid a beautiful tribute to his mentor K Balachander calling him his father.

In the Tamil Film Awards, Baahubali: The Beginning took home the highest number of accolades with a total tally of six awards including Best Picture, Supporting Role (Male), Supporting Role (Female), Playback Singer (Male) and Playback Singer (Female). For the Malyalam Film Awards, Ennu Ninte Moideen took home the highest number of accolades with a total tally of six awards including Best Picture, Leading Role (Male), Leading Role (Female), Supporting Role (Female) and Playback Singer (Female).
 
Jayam Ravi won the award for Leading Role (Male) for his performance in Thani Oruvan (Tamil) while Nayanthara walked away with the award for Leading Role (Female) for May (Tamil). Arvind Swami bagged Best Actor in A Negative Role for Thani Oruvan and director Jayam Raja won Best Director Tamil for Thani Oruvan.

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathi Menon won Best Actor and Best Actress for their film Ennu Ninte Moideen.

There were some dazzling performances by actors from the south states. Kavya Madhavan opened the evening with a fantastic tribute to Baahubali. Shriya Saran, Adah Sharma, Tapsee Pannu, Mamta Mohandas and Nikki Galrani held the audience spell-bound with a stunning performance. Actors Jiiva and Bharath also set the stage on fire with some fab moves.

Our South Indian Film Industry as a whole has contributed immensely to the world of cinema with its terrific productions, live-wire acting and ambitious projects. IIFA UTSAVAM has pulled off a spectacular awards night!”

The Fortune Sunflower Oil IIFA UTSAVAM 2016 awards will honour the Telugu and Kannada film industries on Monday.
