Director-choreographer Remo D’Souza on hoping to feature the actress in a leading role for a film he’s planning
Remo D’Souza, in an earlier interaction, expressed his desire to incorporate folk dance in his oeuvre. The director-choreographer now tells us he is planning to make a full-fledged commercial film based on the life of a folk dancer and the art itself.
He is eager to get Deepika Padukone on board for the film, which he feels will showcase her dancing skills to the hilt. “I have the script ready and the project is waiting to go on floors. I would love to cast Deepika in the lead role. She is an amazing dancer and one of my favourites,” revealed Remo at the launch of his official app.
And while it remains to be seen if DP gives the nod, we’re confident that she will, given their history. Remo choreographed her first music video and most recently, he won the first National Award of his career for Bajirao Mastani’s Deewani Mastani track, which featured her.
Speaking about their association, Remo recalls, “Few people are aware that I was the one who choreographed her first music video before she entered the industry. She was doing ad films and I got her to do a video with Himesh Reshamiya (Aap Ka Surroor). We haven’t worked together since (all the way till Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and later, Bajirao Mastani) and her talent has only grown.”

There was talk that Remo was planning to go ahead first with his film, Nawaabzaade, for which he was scouting talent through his new app, “I am definitely looking at the app to scout some great talent for the film, but I will be producing it.” Remo, who last directed Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez in A Flying Jatt, is yet to make up his mind about which of his projects he would like to choose for his next directorial, including the much-talked about project with Salman Khan, “I will be making an official announcement soon,” he says.
