Nisha Kothari regarded the actor as a mother figure on the sets of ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’

Actor Nisha Kothari is bubbling with excitement. Her Holi number from ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ is on air. Also for the first time ever, Nisha is sharing screen space with another actress—Sushmita Sen.

“She is much more than just an actress. Come on, she is a diva! She has been around for more than a decade but you have to see the way she conducts herself. You never once feel that she is trying to throw her weight around or is trying to gain your attention,” says Nisha.

But heads do turn when Sushmita is around, don’t they? “They have to,” exclaims Nisha adding, “Sushmita has an aura around her. People do get bowled over by her charm. It is but natural to get attracted towards her.”

Has Sushmita’s charm worked  on her as well? “Of course, it has”, she reveals with a grin adding, “I was extremely attracted towards her during the film’s shoot. She takes great care of you when you are at the sets. She made me feel comfortable and never for once treated me like a newcomer. Throughout the shoot, she was like a mother figure to me.”

Nisha continues, “Sush used to be so protective all the time that I used to get intimidated by her.”

After pausing for a while, Nisha explains, “It is something new to me because even after working with the best of names and the biggest of celebrities, I have never ever been intimidated by anyone. My interaction with her only proved the point that Sushmita is not called ‘different’ for no reason.”

In ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’, Sushmita and Nisha play Durga Devi and Ghunghroo respectively. Their characters are based on the ones enacted by Jaya Bachchan and Hema Malini in Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay’ respectively.

While Jaya played the bereaved widow Radha in the original, Hema played the exuberant Basanti—a tangewali.

The Holi number in ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ is composed by Prasanna Shekhar and written by Sharim Momin with singers Ravindra Upadhyaye, Shweta Pandit, Farhad Bhiwandiwala and Shreya Ghoshal giving the playback.
