Siddharth Malhotra, who turned a year older yesterday, celebrated his first ‘working birthday’ and the actor was excited about it.

"As an actor one really looks forward to saying, ‘I will be working on my birthday.’ At least I was waiting... dying to be able to say that since my past few birthdays," says the young actor who finally had his dream come true. "This birthday was truly special for me. I got to take out all my bhadaas (frustrations) of saying that ‘it was a working birthday’ this time," he smiles. But while Siddharth spent the day rehearsing for his performance at an awards event, as well as prepping for his upcoming film Hasee Toh Phasee with Parineeti Chopra that he will begin shooting for, by the end of March, the evening saw him get together with a bunch of close friends over dinner. But no girlfriend? "No, I really am single at the moment. Though I do wish that by my next birthday I will have her by my side. That’s actually part of my birthday wish. And now that I know that dreams do come true, I am hoping this one will also become real," shares Siddharth.

Having made his debut alongside two starkids, does he feel that they have an advantage over non-film family kids in the industry. "Well they have options of turning to people with experience if they need to, while we may take a little longer to figure out the same thing. So, the only difference is in the number of windows that may be more easily available to them in comparison, but beyond that door, it just doesn’t matter where you come from. On the sets, Karan (Johar) never let me feel any different from Varun or Alia," says Siddharth.

The newbie had begun on a high note in the industry with his debut film Student of The Year getting all the right marks at the box-office, but he insists that the real test for him begins now. "The first film chooses you, but after that you choose all your films, so I feel only a bit of the pressure. I still have time to explore all genres before deciding my real calling, though I would hate to get slotted in any image. It’s after the first few films that the responsibility will start to sink in and I am looking forward to that," he says.

Though Siddharth made his debut in the romantic genre and even his next is said to be one, a source revealed that the actor is getting offers in the action genre too. "It’s too early to talk about it, but yes, it’s a genre that I may be getting into soon," says Siddharth.
