Rohan Shah, who started his acting career at six, has done many ads, TV shows and films, but recognition came his way with the recent blockbuster Krissh 3 where he essayed the role of young Kaal.

All of 18, Rohan has already worked with some big names in the industry, including Amitabh Bachchan. Besides acting, he is also pursuing a BCom degree, along with a Diploma course in advertising and PR.

When asked what keeps him so focused and grounded, the young lad wasted no time in crediting his mother for all his success.

Rohan's association with acting began when he first appeared in a Colgate ad at the age of six. Ever since then, Rohan has breezed through one commercial to another.

He has also acted in films like Kyun! Ho Gaya Na and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, and has been a part of popular TV shows like  Sony's Bade Achche Lagte Hain, Gumrah and The Serial on Channel V.

Riding high on the success of Krissh 3, Rohan chats with dnaindia.com about his experience working in the film and his dreams...

Q) You have been working in this industry for long. How did it all start?

I was very young when someone suggested to my mother that I should try modelling, and my mother said, yes why not, she hoped she would see me on TV! At that time she didn’t even know that actors get remunerated for being on TV. She was surprised when I got paid for my first Colgate ad with Candid Films in the year 2000. After the ad went on air, I started getting offers and the whole acting thing just took off as a hobby.
 ‎‎
Q) Did you always wanted to get into films?

I was too young to even know what was I doing. The realisation came across very recently, that this is what I love doing. That is when I started taking my career seriously. You know how cool it is to do fun stuff seriously.

Q) We have seen you mostly in ad films. Is getting into films a conscious decision?

There was no strategy; I just took work as it came.

Q) How did Krissh 3 happen? Did you get to interact with any of the stars on the sets?

I didn't have any idea when I got a call from Rakesh Roshan's office for a role in the film. I was in college when I got the call, so I directly reached the audition venue without any time to freshen up. There I was introduced to Rakesh Sir, who asked me about my availability on the dates he wanted to shoot.

More than being a part of that film, I was happy to know that people out there know me and my work, and the fact that I got selected without a single audition proves this point. When he told me that I was to play the junior Kaal in Krrish 3, I was overwhelmed, but at the same time I was nervous that I had to play a character that was to be played by a brilliant actor.‎ Unfortunately, I couldn't meet or interact with them during shooting.

Q) How tough was the role for you?

I actually didn't find it very tough and Rakesh Sir is the person who I should thank for this. He is so articulate when he explains to you that it sounds like breeze. I just did what he said. I'm glad it has turned out well. ‎

Q) You are young and already have a lot of exposure. Did that take away from your childhood?

Not at all! Thanks to my mother, she took the decision that I would do only ads when I was young. And I would say that I am blessed that I am in the industry since I was 6 years old. I think it is this early exposure, which has made me probably the only 19 year old around who has such a varied experience. My ultimate wish is that I work in the Hindi Film Industry even at the age of 70, which would be a lifetime dedicated to the industry!

Q) Being young and famous is not easy. How do you keep yourself grounded and what would you advise other young aspirants?

One thing I learned very early in my career was that you are what you are only because of your work and how you treat people is more important than how you should be treated.
My mother is another pillar of support in my life who keeps me grounded and it is her valuable lessons in life that have made me what I am today. The least I can do is make my mother proud of me.
 ‎‎
Q) You have worked with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in Kyun Ho Gaya Na and a recent Maggi ad. How has the experience been?

I have done many more ads with Amitabh uncle apart from Maggi and Kyun Ho Gaya Na. He is an amazing gentleman. The best compliment I got from him is when we both worked day and night during the Hajmola ad shoot and Kyun Ho Gaya Na.

He told me, "If you continue working with all this dedication, one day you'll be a big star!" and I'm quite sure I'll be one if Mr Bacchan has said so.

He is a legend; whatever I say will be less in his honour. He is an idol who inspires me. His energy at his age is so motivating for young people like me.

Q) Having worked in both ads and films, which one do you think is tougher to act in? What's your comfort zone?

I think I was too young to be comfortable with anything when I started. I've done all sorts of acting, be it movies, ads, television, theatre, short films, music videos or Internet viral videos.

I've tried to explore different platforms in order to understand what kind of acting works better on which platform, and I think that's why I love my job!

The aim is to always try new things and not have a comfort zone, the moment you start getting comfortable, you stop growing. ‎

Q) How did you manage to juggle studies and work?

I've been working since I was six years old, so this schedule is very normal for me. To a third person it may seem challenging, but these responsibilities have helped me grow as a person. I think your best teacher is your own experience.

Q) Are you a good student?

I'm a very good student, may not be particularly true in college but then again learning about your art is also being a good student right? Basically, I'm a student of acting without a particular university which marks me. I hope I score well when my fans correct the test.

Q) Who are your favourite actors (male and female) and why?‎‎
This is the most difficult question you have asked! My list keeps getting longer every Friday. There is so much to learn from each actor that I can hardly pin down one person. ‎

Q) Who would you love to work with in Bollywood?
Given a chance (fingers crossed), I would love to work with Ranbir Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan.
