His debut film 1971 starring Manoj Bajpayee won a National Award. That was five years ago. Director Amrit Sagar is now back with a light-hearted romantic comedy Rabba Mein Kya Karoon that will mark the debut of his younger brother Akash Sagar and Tahira Kochchar.

The film is based on the drama of a wedding over  seven days. Says Amrit, “A family oriented film it starts with the already-in-love couple deciding to tie the knot and how things take a turn for the worse with the marriage being terminated, etc. It’s a challenge to hold a romantic comedy, which has no courtship.” Amrit has  laboured over the script for two years, spent an year in casting and one year in shooting. “I took a break of one year after 1971,” informs Amrit, who wants to make a film in every genre. His next would be an action-adventure.

As for Rabba... being a launch pad for his brother, Amrit clarifies that he did not make the film keeping Akash in mind. “I always had newcomers in mind and though Akash is from National School of Drama, it was only after watching his play Sapne Chootan Dubey Ke in which he essayed 14 characters that I decided he was good for the film,” explains the director. The film slated to release in October also stars Arshad Warsi and Raj Babbar in pivotal roles.
Amrit, who has also directed serials on TV like Prithviraj Chauhan, Hotel Kingston and Raakhi Ka Insaaf among others is helming the creatives of two new upcoming shows.
