Tamil star R Madhavan, who began his Bollywood career as a lover boy in Rahna Hai Tere Dil Mein, wants to return to the romantic genre after exploring various characters in the Hindi film industry.

"I have not done many romantic films. My characters in Guru and Rang De Basanti were different though they had a romantic track. It seems that people like me in those romantic tracks. So I am thinking of doing an out and out romantic film," the actor, who was in the capital to promote his supernatural thriller 13B, said.

With his dimpled smile and boyish charm, Madhavan has earned an image of romantic hero despite portraying different characters in Hindi and Tamil cinema. But the actor is
selective when it comes to taking up new projects in Bollywood.

"I am drawn to the stories which are different and have something new. For me the script is most important criteria while selecting a film," Madhavan said.

He is returning in a lead role in Bollywood after a long time with 13B, a supernatural thriller which revolves around a middle class family and their television set.       Madhavan said he took up the project because it had an intriguing theme and is closer to the modern realities than other supernatural thrillers.

13B stars Neetu Chandra, Sachin Khedekar, Murli Sharma, Poonam Dhillon in key roles along with Madhavan. The story of the film revolves around a middle-class
family which moves into a new apartment 13B. They get hooked to a TV show about a family which is similar to theirs but things start to get out of control when all the incidents that happen in the show start happening in their life as well.

"I play an ordinary middle class guy in the film, who is not a hero. Everything is going strong for him till he moves into a new house with his family. His world goes
topsy-turvy because of the house and the TV set," said Madhavan.

The South Indian actor, who received critical acclaim for his supporting roles in Guru and Mumbai Meri Jaan is doing a supernatural thriller for the first time. Directed by
Vikram K Kumar the film is simultaneously releasing in Tamil as Yavarum Nalam on March 6.

"Vikram and I wanted to work together for last seven years but we did not have a script. We finally got a perfect script and worked on it for two years. This sort of movie has never been made in India before," said Madhavan.

Madhavan, who had disappeared from Bollywood after Guru despite earning accolades for his performance as a passionate journalist in the movie, is ready with two back to back releases this month. The actor is working with superstar Amitabh Bachchan in Teen Patti and has reunited with his Rang De Basanti co-stars Aamir and Sharman Joshi in Three Idiots.

"Earlier I could find only one or two films which interested me but it has changed this year. I am doing four-five Hindi movies," said Madhavan.

The actor will be next seen as an army officer in Piyush Jha's thriller Sikandar, which revolves around two young children growing up in the violence torn Kashmir.

"My character in the film is an army officer. He tries his best to restore peace in the valley," said the actor.
