It’s only after an initial round of rejection at the auditions of Bittoo Boss, that newbie Pulkit Samrat finally bagged the role. And that too after as many as eight auditions. “I was very unsure since I’m so different from Bittoo. He is an uneducated ruffian from a pind in Punjab — talking that language, with an opinion about everything and an undeniable charisma,” informs Pulkit.

Pulkit, who has had a stint on television in the very popular, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, was busy with the Broadway musical, Taj Express, till he decided to audition for the film.

“After a few rounds, I managed to break the ice and look and behave like Bittoo,” he says, adding, “But what made Bittoo so very endearing was the passion with which he did everything — I’m similar in that sense.” Pulkit confesses to nurturing dreams about his debut film — the introductory scene, songs, emotions, drama.

“And now that I see the final cut, my dreams have turned true,” he states, adding, “I’m trying to come to terms with it but I do realise that luck and patience also matter in this industry.”

Working on Bittoo Boss has been quite special for Pulkit. “First, I learnt how to ride a scooter and secondly, I handled the camera so much that I actually shot the entire making of the film myself. I don’t think it has happened before in the industry. I also shot Amita (Pathak, heroine) a portfolio,” he quips.

With a few days to the release, the nervous excitement is only mounting. “It has been such a challenge — especially getting a hold over the pind language. I actually watched all the Spidermans and Batmans and Supermans in Punjabi to catch the finer nuances and wit of the language,” says Pulkit.

Quiz the young actor what he would take back from his experiences of working on the film and he says, “playing a wedding videographer has changed my outlook. I learnt to keep my ears, eyes and heart open always to be able to capture the right emotions.” And this is one moment when he hopes his knowledge of magic helps. “I’m here to cast my spell,” Pulkit signs off, leaving us hoping that he does create magic at the box office. Soon.
