Actor Imran Khan, 27, is a youth icon in his own right. The actor has shown that he is not happy to be just doing his job of entertaining people with hit films — he’s also vocal on critical issues pertaining to our society and youngsters. On International Youth Day, Imran speaks exclusively to After Hrs and boy, does he have a strong message for the youth.

“I get really angry when I hear people who are 26 or 27 years old saying that they don’t care about what’s happening in our country and around them. Statistics show that we are a young country with the average age something around 30. My blood boils when people don’t vote and that’s why last year I was doing an initiative urging the youth to choose leaders they look up to as they are the people taking our country forward,” Imran says.

The actor adds, “I hate the chalta hai attitude. I also see reports on how the youth is getting disillusioned because of the pressures of the times that we live in and committing suicides. I want to tell them that nothing is worth giving up life for. The youth of India have a huge potential to grow. We are making a mark the world over by doing what we believe in.”

Imran is also rooting for sex education among the youth. “STDs and AIDS are on the rise and the youth must be safe. I’m happy with the sex education being imparted but we have a long way to go. It is important for the youth to know that they must use condoms and get blood tests done before marriage,” he says.

The actor is also game to see the youth joining politics. “Sadly in India, politics is believed to be a dirty profession but you cannot do anything good without getting your hands dirty. If the youth feels that it has to get into the system to change it and make it better, more power to them,” he ends.
