It is the season of bio-pics. There are at least half a dozen films on real life stories under production and now comes the news that a bio-pic is being planned on the life and times of the legendary magician PC Sorcar. Former COO of Viacom 18 Vikram Malhotra has launched his own production house, Crouching Tiger and one of the the first films that will roll out of his production house is. It will be directed by Soumik Sen who recently helmed Gulaab Gang.
The Sorcar bio-pic would be a big-budget spectacle with dazzling special effects.The hunt is on to play Sorcar Senior and Junior, and the filmmaker is in talks with actors. The Sorcar bio-pic too would have its share of the magic they performed on stage. But the focus of the plot would be on P C Sorcar's relationship with his son PC Sorcar Jr.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, "I've heard Soumik Sen is making a film on the legendary magician.I'd like to see Mr Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor in the two roles of father and son. It would be magical to see such amazing talent work together."
Actors who have played magicians
Amitabh Bachchan in Jaadugar: As the title suggests, the movie was about two magicians played by Amitabh Bachchan and Amrish Puri. Both tried to fool villagers into believing they are divine - Puri's character was evil while Big B only wanted to expose him. The film, however, failed to create magic at the box-office.
Hrithik Roshan in Guzaarish: He crooned It's Magic in Koi Mil Gaya, when he discovered his super powers, but it was in Guzaarish that Hrithik played a magician with unbeatable tricks before becoming a quadriplegic. He won rave reviews, the film didn't.
Amitabh Bachchan in Aladin: Based on the fantasy tale, the film had Big B playing a genie to Ritesh Deshmukh's Aladin. The genie called Genius slips into Aladin's dreams to know his wishes and make them come true. But things start falling apart and soon even Genuis loses his magic touch.
Emraan Hashmi in Ek Thi Daayan: Emraan Hashmi played a top-class magician, who himself is a victim of a witch's sorcery. Never mind, who played the tricks, whether it was the magician or the witch, the film managed to raise some chills and thrills.
Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3: Aamir Khan played a consummate trickster, who robs banks with his acrobatic circus skills. He was not really a magician but with his twin avatar managed to hoodwink the cops in the action film and laughed all the way to the bank.
Kay Kay Menon in Drona: In this fantasy adventure film, Kay Kay Menon played an evil sorcerer, Riz Raizada against Drona played by Abhishek Bachchan. But neither Drona's superhero skills nor Raizada's devilry could save this disastrous film.
Amitabh Bachchan in Toofan: The film had Bachchan in a double role, one of which had him playing a magician and the other as a superhero, but both failed to cast a spell on the audience.
