How Nawazuddin Siddiqui got his bald look for Mom

2017 will see Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a variety of looks in films as diverse as Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, Munna Michael and Manto, but going by the pictures of his look in Mom, this one stands out of the lot. In the Sridevi-starrer, he plays a semi-bald, bespectacled character.

Of his special appearance in the film, Nawaz says, “We worked on the look for 15 days before we finalised it. The director Ravi Udyawar planned something different. Normally, the character is created first and then the look but for Mom, it was the other way round. We tried various looks with how my character would walk and talk and his mannerisms. We used prosthetics and the entire process would take almost three hours to put on and remove. Moreover, shooting in Mumbai and Delhi during the day, when it is incredibly hot.”

Adds the actor, “Producer Boney Kapoor had planned to fly down make-up artists for the prosthetics, but they needed two months at a stretch, so instead we went with artists, who trained in Los Angeles.”

While he says he can’t reveal much about his character, he says his role was made special “because of Sridevi.” He adds, “She’s my favourite actress and I think she’s the best actress in our country.”
