The catfights between Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif seem to be a thing of the past if a recent interview to the media ahead of Happy New Year's release date is anything to go by.

A journalist called Kat "a mere showpiece" in her films. Deepika strongly disagreed and instead said this in the actress' defence, "According to Katrina, she has definitely worked very hard for Bang Bang. So how can anybody call her a showpiece? The hard work and the effort that we put in, are the same."

She ranted on, "People, these days, think it is too easy to become a heroine and that being a heroine means you just need to look good in every frame. But trust me, being a heroine is extremely difficult. Every role that we take up, requires us to work hard for it."

DP said the choice of roles was important, but added, "Be it me, Katrina or anybody else, we might like something which others would not and vice versa. I cannot comment on anyone's choice of roles. I have also done a lot of films which haven't done well, for example Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Break Ke Baad or a Lafangey Parindey - all were character-driven films. People remember the character only if a film does well. So calling someone a mere showpiece is something I would not agree with", said Deepika.
