Holi songs and sequences have always added that colour of masti to Hindi films. This tried-and-tested formula has been used by many filmmakers. Whether it’s the bhaang-induced sensuous colour play between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in Silsila’s Rang Barse; Shah Rukh Khan’s passion play with Juhi Chawla in Darr or Akshay Kumar’s flirtatious numbers with Priyanka Chopra in Waqt and Aishwarya Rai in Action Replay, Holi songs have made their presence felt in several movies.

However, in the last few years, there has been a dip in the festive song and dance routine. Holi was outdone by Ganpati songs (Don, Agneepath, ABCD) or Gokulashtami (OMG and Rangrezz).

Trade experts attribute the lack of Holi songs to the kind of films being made and say such songs would seem forced in them. But this year Holi returns on screen with a vengeance. Here’s taking a look at some of these colourful numbers coming up...

Isaaq

Manish Tiwari’s film Isaaq starring Prateik has a colourful Holi track shot entirely in Varanasi. The song Ene Onne Ho Gaya has Prateik dancing on the streets and the lad admits he had great fun shooting the number.

Ranjhanaa

Though Aanand Rai has been trying hard to keep the film and the look of his actors under wraps, buzz is that the director has shot a Holi song on the ghats of Varanasi with his lead jodi Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush.

Holi Bachchan style

Amitabh Bachchan has undoubtedly done the maximum Holi numbers till date and his rich baritone has added that dash of earthy flavour to the songs that made them all instant hits. Sholay, Silisila, Baghban, Dil Jo Bhi Kahey being some of his most famous numbers. His film Waqt too had a Holi song though it was picturised on his onscreen beta and bahu, AK-PC.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Ayan Mukherjee-directed upcoming film has an elaborately shot Holi number apparently in the bylanes of Udaipur. Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor are all set to bring back that festive fervour in films once again.

Dussehra
This Manish Vatsalya-directed film will have a Holi song Jogira that is to be picturised on Neil Nitin Mukesh and Yana Gupta.

Ram Leela keeps ’em guessing!
While there are reports doing rounds on the Internet about a Holi sequence being shot on sets recreated in Film City to look like Gujarat, and Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh shooting for it too, Sanjay Leela Bhansali maintains that there is no Holi song in his Ram Leela.
