The Chennai floods in December 2015 brought the entire city together. Strangers helped each other and many celebs worked on the ground to ensure affected people got food and necessary items for sustenance. Chiyaan Vikram was amazed to see how people came together during this crisis and decided he would make a tribute to the city.

Vikram explains, "The Chennai rains and resulting flood was one of the saddest and debilitating events that the world has seen or faced, leaving the city and adjoining areas helpless, stranded without food or drinking water, even loss of life in many cases. What turned the worlds attention is not the nations wrath but how the city instead of crumbling and succumbing to it, rose en masse to fight back and save itself. A first, for any city. This touched me and inspired me as it did a million others and the 'Spirit of Chennai' was born. An anthem, a story that speaks of the undying spirit and love that people of Chennai are capable of."

He roped in many celebrities from the industry to feature in his video titled the 'Spirit of Chennai'. Abhishek Bachchan, Suriya, Karthi, Prabhudeva, Nayanthara, Jayam Ravi, Siddharth and Khushbu are a few of the names you will find in this touching video directed by the actor.

The actor adds, "It also raises a pertinent question. Does a calamity have to happen, for us to reach out to one another?. When I searched for a team to make this dream come true, a thousand kindred souls came together with the same compassion that Chennai exhibited, without a moment's hesitation. Thank you Chennai for making me believe in “Humanity” and what its capable of. Thank you for making me discover the better person in me."

Vikram shot a lot of the video at the Besant Nagar beach in Chennai. Even actors from other states, like Nivin Pauly, took part in the video. Vikram said he tried to include all the stars from across South India but it was tough to coordinate. The actor did, however, get stars from Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada despite the difficulty. The video with song will be released soon on YouTube.
