Yami Gautam is one of the few actresses who made a successful transition from TV to films. She made her Bollywood debut with the light-hearted and critically acclaimed Vicky Donor and hasn’t looked back since. She may not have an athletic body but the actress, who will soon be seen in Total Siyappa, is a fitness freak and devotes one hour everyday to her workout — hot yoga and cardio. Exercising, she says is the best way to rejuvenate. Here she urges every woman to exercise, keep fit and be confident!

“Firstly, I must say that DNA ICan half-marathon for women is a very good initiative. Hats off to every woman who will be running the marathon. It’s not about winning it, but the zeal and enthusiasm to participate. It is important for women to keep themselves fit. If you are fit, you are confident and it reflects in your personality. You could choose any form of exercise. It could be running, swimming or yoga. It gives you a chance to reconnect with yourself. Running is one of the best ways to keep fit and I prefer it to the treadmill. I usually switch between different types of workouts. Last year, I was into TRX, now, I am into hot yoga — yoga done under hot and humid conditions.

Also, I am all for the cause of education of the girl child, which the ICan marathon is endorsing. Educating one girl means educating the family. It has to start at the grassroot level. The government needs to introduce special themes and programmes to facilitate their education free of cost. I would even go a step ahead and say it is extremely important to save the girl child first. The mindset of the people who prefer a boy over a girl needs to be changed and now!
