July 4th is America's independence day. But for nerds and Marvel fans around the globe, it's Captain America's birthday!

The comic book superhero who is also known as Steve Rogers is turning 97 on Tuesday. Captain America is supposed to be the moral centre of the Marvel Comic book universe and the same essence was supposed to be carried in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But since the events of Captain America: Civil War, Rogers has gone rogue and speculations about his loyalty to the Avengers in the events of Infinity War are running rampant. In the comic book world, he turned evil and supposedly is a Hydra agent.

When you are 97, you must have seen a lot of things in your life. Same goes for the fictional character who was first created in 1941. He underwent a lot of ups and downs and also various incarnations. This makes him one of the most intriguing characters in the comic book world.

Let's take a look at seven interesting facts about Cap

1. Captain America is a creation of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Both writers were Jewish and Cap was their voice against Nazi regime of Germany during World War II. Their initial choice for the character name was Super American.

2. Before joining the US Army and becoming Howard Stark's hamster for experiment in the bottle, Rogers' body was home to asthma, scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, epilepsy, sinusitis, chronic or frequent colds, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, fatigue, heart trouble, nervousness, prior contact with a tuberculosis patient, family history of diabetes, cancer, and stroke.

3. Though called 'The First Avenger', Cap is not. It was Ant-Man, Wasp, The Hulk, Thor and Iron Man that made up the first Avengers team. Cap joined after Hulk left.

4. Captain has been deemed as worthy by Norse God Thor's hammer Mjolnir. In the comic books, Cap has wielded the hammer twice. The first time, Thor himself was the victim of the blow. The second time, Cap used it to lead the Avengers to victory against fictional villain Serpent.

5. Steve Rogers is not the only person to carry the moniker Captain America. In the comic books, in the aftermath of Civil War, Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier was made Captain America. The 2015 run of Marvel Comics showed Sam Wilson, who is also The Falcon in MCU, take up the name.

6. In the comic books, Cap's shield was initially triangular. Like we see at the beginning of Captain America: The First Avenger. It was changed to avoid the similarities with the shield of Archie Comics superhero The Shield.

7. MCU appearance is actually the 7th live-action adaptation of the character. Captain America debuted on television in 1944 and was played by Dick Purcell.
