Today’s Gudi Padwa, the New Year according to the Hindu calendar and among those celebrating the auspicious day in Bollywood is actress Amrita Rao, with whom DNA caught up with in a celebratory mood at her residence. “Gudi Padwa’s also associated with Lord Rama’s homecoming from Lanka and this time around, it’s twice the fun as we’re celebrating the homecoming of the World Cup too,” she says excitedly.

The actor who’s taken a day off from her hectic shoots hopes to spend the day with her cousins and friends. “That of course after doing the puja and setting up the Gudi near the door,” she adds.

“Celebrations,” she says, “are not like the way it was when we were kids for sure, when the biggest reason to celebrate was because it meant a holiday from school and a play-day with cousins. That apart from getting loads of gifts from the elders and enjoying the yummy food prepared specially for the day.”

But the star does admit that though the ‘playing’ part may have reduced, the day has far more significance today. “Everyone’s so busy these days that families now wait for such occasions to meet up, and I think the traditions associated with day is a great way to stay connected to our roots,” smiles Amrita.
