Child stars: All grown up too soon?

These young singers are packaged in an adult fashion, even though it's probably not needed

Among other things the international music industry is blamed for, one constant allegation that comes their way is the sexualisation or adultification of music videos, in some cases even explicitly so, by way of lyrics and video content. And we aren't talking about adult stars with teens and pre-teens for fans. In the following cases, these stars were as old as their fans...

NOT OLD ENOUGH
Rebecca Black (17)

At one point of time, the one song more annoying than Justin Bieber's Baby, Friday was Black's crowning glory, the video was something you couldn't sit through without either guffawing to or curling up your nose at. Friday was still kid-friendly though, compared to Saturday, which didn't want the party to end, singin' 'gonna party all night'. And the video showed her grow for the better. But hey, she's still not old enough to do those things!

Becky G (17)
Lines like 'Baby, you make me hot like a oven', 'you light me up inside like the Fourth of July' may be open to interpretation, but when you're 'dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower', those interpretations are limited. The video was tamer by comparison.

Austin Mahone (18)
Mahone is the sort of wholesome package parents really don't object to. But the boy has grown up. Collaborating with Pitbull on Mmm Yeah and dancing with a model much older than him, he mouths lines like "we can do whatever we want" and talks about checking a girl out as she walks away from him. Pitbull specifies which part (booty). Let's just hope Mahone's fans are his age... otherwise he'd come across quite creepy.

YOUTUBE STAR
Matty B (11)

He does covers of pop songs he likes and that could be anything from the new Katy Perry song or a Rihanna one or even anything off the Billboard Top 10. Mostly harmless videos, Matty's content watchability is more dependent on the songs he chooses to cover

THE BIG NAMES
Jaden Smith (16)

Will's boy grew up in front of our eyes, going from being this generation's Karate Kid to showing signs of being a serious singing star. His fashion sense is far forward for his age. Kylie Jenner's ex is actually the kind of star that has grown up in a hurry but far more responsibly so.

Willow Smith (14)
Willow's wackiness (at least to me) seems to be a part of who she is as a person, never holding back, either when she Whips her Hair Back And Forth or sings about being a 21st Century GIrl. But a girl her age, needn't be this intense, no?

WHAAAAT??!!
Albert Roundtree Jr (8)

At age six, Albert Roundtree appeared in a music video that featured on YouTube. The young boy was surrounded by women in bikinis, in the video that was apparently, paid for by his parents with their own money. What he was rapping to? The words: I can make your booty pop. In one scene, he holds a water gun close to his crotch and fires... Seriously, what were they thinking???
