Golden Globes 2015: Our picks for the film awards

Surreal show business satire Birdman is a frontrunner at the Golden Globes 2015 with seven nods from the Hollywood Press Association. Directed by Alejandro Inarritu, the film is favourite with the critics and will go up against Richard Linklater's Boyhood which earned five nominations and also pushed cinematic boundaries. The two films will compete in different categories: Birdman for best comedy or musical film and Boyhood in the more coveted best drama race.

Our pick: Boyhood. Filmed with the same cast over the period of 12 years, this coming-of-age film follows the highs and lows of  life seen through a child eyes. The film has been lauded by critics as it made rounds at film festivals. Director Richard Linklater won best director at the Berlin Film Festival for the film.

Our pick: Birdman. Critics' favourite Birdman will easily win this category eventhough the website leak seemed to suggest that Into the Woods would take this one. There is chance that The Grand Budapest Hotel could cause an upset.

Jake Gyllenhaal - Nightcrawler

Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything

Our pick: David Oyelwo's powerful performance as Martin Luther King is our favourite to win. Although with a charming, Oscar-friendly performance this one could go to Eddie Redmayne.

Best actress- Drama

Jennifer Aniston - Cake
Felicity Jones - The Theory of Everything
Julianne Moore - Still Alice
Rosamund Pike - Gone Girl
Reese Witherspoon - Wild

Our pick: Witherspoon and Aniston have both created a lot of buzz for their respective films, but this award has Julianne Moore written all over it.
Winner in 2014: Cate Blanchett

Best Actor- Comedy or Musical

Michael Keaton - Birdman
Bill Murray - St. Vincent
Joaquin Phoenix - Inherent Vice

Our pick: Michael Keaton. This is possibly Keaton's year with him taking it all the way to the Oscars.

Our pick: Julianne Moore. It is possible that Julianne Moore could score a double win. Fingers crossed! Amy Adams is a strong contender as well.

Our pick: JK Simmons. Simmons is also the favourite to win at the Oscars but could be upset by the Edward Norton at the Globes.

Meryl Streep - Into the Woods

Our pick: Patricia Arquette. Arquette is the strongest on this list followed Chastain, but Academy and Globe favourite Meryl streep could cause an upset here.

David Fincher - Gone Girl

Our pick: This one is between Duvernay and Linklater. Linklater is likely to win for his 12 year odyssey in making this film but Duvernay offers strong competition and could become only the second woman to win this award.

Our pick: It is anyone's game. But we have a feeling Wes Anderson will take this one.
