For the first time Freida Pinto will be making an appearance at an Indian awards show, IIFA, this year in Spain. Says an industry source, “Slumdog Millionaire was that massive breakthrough point for India in the international film market. While we did see Indian actors being a part of Hollywood films, Slumdog.. ensured that Indian talent was looked at far more seriously. Post that, Freida has worked with some of the most coveted names in the business like Christian Bale, Woody Allen, Tarsem Singh, Terrence Mallik, James Franco, etc. She also emerged as one of the youngest, most loved fashionistas. She is a voice for girls’ education and women’s rights the world over and she truly deserves this honour.” After attending the awards event, she will fly straight to Monrovia to join the First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters to visit young girls and help them receive quality education as part of Michelle Obama’s Let Girls Learn campaign.

He is dropping in for a quick appearance as the organisers are keen to have him there. Also, he will get to meet girlfriend Deepika Padukone. Says a source, “Ranveer’s presence will be an added appeal to the people there so he is flying in and out of Spain for just a day. The organisers are shelling out a hefty fee to the actor for his quickie appearance.” Perks of being successful, we guess.
