It's that time of the year again! When one can put on their stylish best and head out for the night. Party hair this year around is not necessarily very elaborate or intricately styled. Instead, looser, slightly messed up styles are in, making it easier to recreate at home. Whether it is an office year-ender party or Christmas Eve, here's what you should be doing with your mane.

GO FOR A MESSY DO

Natasha Naegamvala, director, Nalini of Nalini and Yasmin salon says presently slightly unkempt hair seems to be in. "I have just returned from Europe, and that seems to be the order of the day. So this could apply to hair up or down. It all depends on how well groomed you like your hair. Most looks have a make-do version which can be done at home. All one needs is for their stylist to show them how to create it, with the correct tools and styling products. Generally, soft, feminine looks seem to work best for parties of any sort. This would apply not only to Indian parties but across the globe."

BRING OUT THE CURLS

When it comes to hairstyles it really depends on the event one is attending as well as the person's age and attire, says Suzie Selunkhe, cosmetic head, Pan India, Advanced Hair Studio. "Loose waves and curls are favoured currently. For something like a Christmas party, one can scrunch their hair and create a sexy wet look. Another option is to scrunch and pile the hair on top similar to a bouffant. If one wants to show off an off-shoulder or backless dress, one can tie the hair up with beautiful pins and clips. Braids are also a popular choice and look beautiful when done from one side to the other," she says. Those with shorter hair, can get hair extensions either in shades of brown or gold or for something more funky - red or pink extensions. "Straight hair is too normal, instead add some bounce to your do. Messy buns look great when accessorised with butterfly or crystal embellished accessories."

EXPERIMENT AWAY

TIGI celebrity stylist, Savio John Pereira and TIGI educator, Reetu Dang say braids, side swept hairdos and ponytails are most popular this season. "Women love to sport loose braids with a few pieces of hair strategically left out to frame the face. Also, the side swept braids are worn by a lot of women. Side swept hair dos and bangs add a unique aspect to the face. Ponytails, be it a classic low pony with a side or mid-parted hair to a messy pony looks great with dresses. Those with shorter locks, can add a few highlights or a dash of global hair colour to instantly give a fresh look. Slicking your hair back with the help of a gel or wax is another option for a short party style," they say. Experiment with accessories such as fancy bobby pins to fix an updo, artificial flowers to add a feminine touch, scarves and bandanas made from satin, cotton, silk and tic tac and claw clips. Tiaras are also very popular to add a royal touch.
