Often referred to as one of the most lively and energetic bands from the UK, Gentleman’s Dub Club are  known for fusing ska, dubstep, dub and roots in their musical style. The group that will make their Indian debut on February 2 at the India Bike Week to be held in Vagator, Goa, say they were heavily influenced by Dub Sound System culture which is all about big, deep bass lines but with a live approach and energy. Is there a large audience that understands dub music?
Dubstep began in England and over the past six years we have seen it go worldwide. As a part of this, people are looking back to the origins of Dubstep and are finding out about Dub music and Sound System culture. Our music is based around dub/ska/reggae but with an electronic twist (using synths and drum machines alongside more conventional instruments). We have earned a reputation as one of the most energetic live bands on the touring circuit so expect to dance!

Your Open Your Eyes EP was a big hit. Tell us a little about it...
Open your Eyes that came out last year included classic tracks such as High Grade and Tough at the Top which we have been playing for years. Tough at the Top also features UK’s heavyweight Grime artiste P Money who added a whole new dimension to the record. The EP has been in the top 20 reggae albums for nearly a year now and spent a month at number one.

Are you’ll bike enthusiasts yourselves? What do you have lined up for the India Bike Week?
We all like the idea of riding motorcycles but none of us own them.  I personally want to ride an old Enfield!
It will be a high energy performance. We expect to whip the audience into a frenzy with plenty of Sub Bass! Hopefully it will be an unforgettable show.

Are you aware of any Indian musicians or even Bollywood music?
We know and love the likes of the late Ravi Shankar and Zakir Hussain but we still have a lot to learn about Bollywood music. Please tweet us some of your recommendations.

Any projects you’ll are currently working on?
We are doing an album, it’s been a long time coming! We hope to have some interesting collaborations and possibly some featured vocalists as well. We are also starting to do a fair amount of remixes and have just done one for singer songwriter Alex Clare’s new single.
