After speculations that director Gautham Vasudev Menon would play the role of the hero's father in Dhruv Vikram’s debut film as the lead actor titled 'Adithya Varma' hogged the headlines, the makers have now denied it. Producer Mukesh R Mehta of E4Entertainment has confirmed that Gautham Menon is not part of the project. Earlier, when the project was taken over by E4E Entertainment since they were not satisfied with the final output submitted by director Bala, rumors were rife that Gautham Menon was in talks to helm the project.

'Adithya Varma' is an official remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey as leads. The film went on to become one of the biggest profit earners in the history of Telugu cinema. In Tamil, the film was initially titled Varmaa before E4E brought director Girisayya to helm the new version rechristened as Adithya Varma.

“We at E4 Entertainment are not at all happy with the final version handed over to us, and due to various creative and other differences, we have decided not to release this version. Instead, we will start afresh and shoot a new Tamil version of Arjun Reddy with Dhruv as the main lead, by staying true to the soul and intention of the original. Despite this unfortunate turn of events which has cost us heavily, our love for wanting to see this cult film in Tamil has not diminished in any way. We will, therefore, work tirelessly as a newly united team towards a June 2019 release," read a statement from Mukesh Mehta earlier.

Bollywood actress Banita Sandhu of October fame and Priya Anand now play essential roles in the film, which has cinematography by Ravi K Chandran.
