With sportsmen Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and more recently, Sania Mirza instrumental in making India a name to reckon with in the world of tennis, could the city’s elite stay away from the game’s finals at Wimbledon today? Most, including B-Towners, are apparently  already in London soaking in the eclectic atmosphere.

This is a far cry from the time  when Indian celebs were spotted only at sporting events like cricket and football. Cricket icon, Sachin Tendulkar has been a regular of late, at tennis events. In fact, he was spotted in the Royal box with wife Anjali at Wimbledon sitting right behind tennis legend, Rod Laver for the semi-final match between Swiss legend Roger Federer and Serbian, Novak Djokovic. A source reveals, “Sachin and Roger have been friends for a very long time. While travelling, Sachin meets Roger if he is also playing a tournament around the same time. They have immense respect for each other’s talents and are the best in the business in their respective sports. Sachin wanted to witness Roger play and it was coincidence that Roger won that match as well.”

Actor Lara Dutta-Bhupathi, married to Mahesh, is also at Wimbledon catching all the action live. Though Mahesh was ousted from the tournament a couple of rounds earlier, Lara, a huge fan of Roger will only be back after watching the finals.

Playing the ideal wife is also former model Rhea Pillai,  who’s there to give much support to husband, Leander, who has secured a position in the mixed doubles semi-finals, at the time of going to press.

Others present at the event reportedly are love-birds, actor Vidya Balan and beau, Siddharth Roy Kapur. The duo apparently made a hush-hush trip to Wimbledon as Vidya is a huge fan of tennis. It’s her dream to witness the Wimbledon championship live. It is also veteran actor Shabana Azmi’s maiden trip to Wimbledon. She’s there with hubby, lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar  to witness the men’s final between Roger and Brit player, Andy Murray.
