Anushka Sharma is one of those actresses who has managed to impress the audience and the critics alike with her mind blowing performances in whatever character she has chosen to portray on screen. Be it the muhfat career oriented Shruti Kakkar who sets her own rules (Jiske sath vyapaar karo uss se kabhi na pyar karo, remember?) or the jovial Alizeh who is quick witted as well as emotional (Jo tera haal hai, woh mera haal hai. Haal se haal mila, taal se taal mila).

So, here are 8 such characters of Anushka that stole our hearts and will always stay with us:

1) Taani Sahni in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Matching up to SRK in one’s debut film is a not an easy task. But Anushka Sharma played Taani quite effortlessly. She portrays a vivacious girl who loves Bollywood and dancing but becomes a reserved, depressed girl due to an unfortunate incident that changes her life forever.

2) Shruti Kakkar in Band Baaja Baaraat

Anushka plays an intelligent quirky girl who is a wedding planner. A woman who knows her business. Her character can be described as crude but cute. Anushka played the feisty, ambitious Shruti Kakkar to perfection, who knows what she wants to do professionally and for whom love can wait. Despite being broken when her love is not reciprocates initially, she handles the situation with maturity eventually and moves on.

3) Akira Rai in Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Anushka Sharma's character, Akira, can best be described as a 21-year-old who works for the Discovery Channel and makes documentaries. She is on a quest to discover the truth behind the story of The Man Who Cannot Die (Samar Anand) in the film and eventually falls for him. She is extremely ambitious and will do anything to make it big and realize her dreams. When she eventually realizes that Samar can never be hers, she moves ahead in her life, realizing her dreams and aspirations.

4) Jagatjanani aka Jaggu in PK

In PK she impresses us once again as a journalist who is determined to change the world with her sincerity and determination. She is dedicated and diligent towards her work and does not fear the society and what people will say about her. Not only her character, but also her makeover in the movie also left a lasting impression.

5) Farah Ali in Dil Dhadakne Do

Farah Ali is a fun-loving, talented woman who loses her heart to a rich, spoilt, aimless, conflicted man. She potrays a strong headed woman who is living her dreams despite getting no support from her family. Her character is in stark contras to the man she ends up falling for. She follows her passion i.e dancing and also manages to earn for herself. She plays an independent woman from a traditional muslim family who is not willing to follow the norms but break them and set new ones.

6) Mira in NH10

As Mira, Anushka is unaffected and entirely credible, whether she's making a work presentation or spilling blood. Her screen presence is phenomenal and it's the reason that NH10 can lay claim to being that rare breed of Bollywood films. In one of the scenes in the movie, Meera counts on Arjun played by Neil Bhoopalam (husband in the movie) to be her protector and feels she doesn't have to worry about anything if he is around. But during her journey she understands that only she can help herself.Director Navdeep has shown this change or transition by a very good scene in which Meera removes the watch from Arjun's wrist and wears it. This shows time has changed, though dangerous, but time is in our own hands.

7) Aarfa Hussain in Sultan

The character of Aarfa was born from the akharas in Haryana where women wrestlers had to practise with their male counterparts. Anushka had to be the truest representation of what these women stood for - fierce and, in every way, as much a sportsperson as a man. Her dhobi pachhaads were no less than those of real wrestlers.

Aarfa is a fitting tribute to not just the women wrestlers, but every female athlete in the country. In a society that still largely has a myopic view of women in sport, Aarfa challenges the norm and fights against the odds. "Yeh joh tumhari society hai na, is mein aaj bhi ladkiyan ghunghat ke peeche janam leve hai aur wahin mar jaave hai," says Aarfa.

8) Alizeh Khan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

ADHM saw her playing Alizeh, a spirited girl who doesn’t want her friendship with Ayaan (Ranbir Kapoor) to get spoilt because of the emotional baggage that accompanies relationships. Anushka’s portrayal of the character struck a chord with one and all. She looked stunning in every frame and she dealt the transformation of Alizeh with maturity. Beneath the beautiful smile lies a broken heart which can light up even the darkest corners.
