Fringe fever is raging - from the rarefied global runways to the paparazzi crowded by-lanes of B-town. Burberry in their fall winter 2015-16 line showcased fringed ponchos, Proenza Schouler's Pre-fall 2015 offering had fringe as the leitmotif. At Lakme Fashion Week, Manish Malhotra showcased fringed crop tops and sari pallus with tassles. At a recent soiree, Nargis Fakhri was seen in fringe heels, Lisa Haydon was spotted carrying a fringed bag and Bipasha Basu was snapped in a fringed dress by Hemant and Nandita.

A few weeks ago, Malaika Arora Khan showed up in a plaid fringed poncho and Esha Gupta was seen in a fringed crop top which spelled Coachella-esque vibe. What is about the allure of fringes that even most cynical fashion lovers are succumbing to it?

Perfect for summer wedding
Designer Manish Malhotra whose resort line saw fringes all across says, "The fringe look could be a top over slim pants and this summer we introduced it with lehengas to give a summer chic look. The brides have chosen the fringed look for their sangeet and specially for resort fun wedding."
He cautions, "I think with fringes there should be minimal accessories like even on our sarees we have kept the sarees simple so that thefringe stands out."

Proceed with caution
Designer Varun Bahl says, "This 70s trend is in full swing—literally. But, proceed with caution on this one as it can easily look too costume-y if you take it too far. I suggest you add that bit of fringe with minimalist elements. For example, pair a fringe skirt with a plain top, or opt for minimalist, decorative fringes in a dress. Or just go with smaller fringe detailing in the trousers or tops that you choose, instead of going for full-on swishing fringes and tassels."

'70s offshoot
Designer Swapnil Shinde attributes it to the prevalent '70s trend. "The fringe is definitely making a huge comeback and is reminiscent in Bombay Velvet and the promo song of Dil Dhadakne Do has a hint of it." Shinde had made a fringed gown for Deepika Padukone for a recent event.

Reflect movement
Designer duo Hemant and Nandita say, "Fringes - be it on a bag, shoes or a cap reflects a lot of movement in a look. We personally feel thatfringe accessories are best suited with casual dressing. It could be a very basic minimal look adorned with fancy fringes to add to a free-spirited boho-inspired look. Denims, basic printed dresses or even a casual formal dressing can be spiced up with some really nice fringeaccessories."

Accessorise well!
Hemant adds, "The best way to accessorise fringes is to blend it with statement jewellery, scarves and cover-ups, boots, denims or free-flowing prints."
Designer Anupama Dayal says, "Opt for open hair and bell bottoms - the 70s feel. Traditionally suede is great for fringing. Precious jewellery with pretty stones looks nice and bags with long swingy handles."

Vary of fringes?
Shradha Murarka of Vizyon says, "If you're weary of trying the trend, I recommend starting small, like with your accessories. Whether you rock fringed jewellery or a pair of booties, it is a great way to ease into the style — and now is the time to get comfortable with the trend. Or sport a swimsuit with fringe detailing."

Air of sporty outdoor
Designer Komal Sood says, "The fringe is a retro trend inspired by the native Indian fringed jacket. The fringe adds an air of casual sporty outdoor chic element to the garment or accessory like bags, shoes and capes and ideally should be used for the day wear look."

Hottest spring trend
Designer Pallavi Puri says, "The best part about the trend is that it is so ingenious and adaptable, one can pull it off by wearing a fringe skirt with a simple, basic tee and a nice pair of stilettos, or as a jacket for a more rock and roll edge, or keep it as simple as a fringed bag or fringeearrings. The options with this chic trend are limitless. My personal favourite is a 20s inspired fringed flapper dress."
