Dev talks about his globetrotting girlfriend, also revealing his Bollywood plans.
Actor Dev Patel reveals that though he is not open to Bollywood yet, he is keen on doing films that tell stories of India, like his recent release The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. “I have immense respect for Bollywood, but I don’t think I’m cut out for it,” he says.
“But I would love to work with Indian filmmakers if they have global stories to tell,” adds the actor. Talking about his fave actors here, Dev says that though he likes Shah Rukh Khan, he’s more of an Irrfan fan. “I enjoy watching SRK’s films immensely, but as actors I really like Seema Biswas and Irrfan. I think they become the characters they play easily. They are definitely the ones I really respect and admire,” he says.
Having shared screen space with Oscar winning actors including Judi Dench in The Best… the actor says that it has been a great learning experience working with the stalwarts. “I was terrified and nervous, but there’s so much I learned from them. I will carry the lessons with me for life,” he explains. As for Dench praising the youngster, Dev says that he feels lucky. “Coming from an actor of her stature, it holds as much weight as any Oscar,” smiles the actor.
Though he and girlfriend actress Freida Pinto started their film journey together with the Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire, the actor insists that they do not keep a tab or try to compete professionally. “I am really happy and proud to see the way Freida’s career has shaped up,” he says. “We are young, and trust me we have far more to talk about when we meet,” laughs Dev.
“She has a pretty hectic schedule and so do I, so like any couple we do try to work around it to catch up, but you know both of us are focused on our work and we both understand that, I think that’s the beauty of it all and no we don’t keep tabs on each other,” adds the actor.
