'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan’s latest hit flick, Papanasam (Tamil remake of Malayalam film Drishyam), is still running in screens and a few months before this, we saw his ambitious Uthama Villain release in theatres to critical acclaim.

Meanwhile, he has competed shooting for his next project, Thoongavanam, an action thriller.

Starring Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan and Prakash Raj, the film is directed by Rajesh M Selva. In a recent interview to a publication, Selva stated that he was extremely touched that Kamal Haasan asked him to direct his home production.

The shoot for the film was completed in a span of about three months. According to sources, the movie’s post-production is in full swing now and the dubbing is already 20% complete. Thoongavanam was simultaneously shot in Telugu and will be released as Cheekati Rajiyam. With this bilingual film, Kamal Haasan will have four releases (technically) for 2015, a big achievement for the 60-year-old actor who likes to keep himself busy. 2014 in contrast didn't see any releases as he was shooting and working on the post-production of Uthama Villain.

Thoongavanam is said to be an official remake of the French film Sleepless Night (2011) that apparently went on to become the 15th highest-grossing film in France in its opening week. The film revolves around a police detective and his son, and a nightclub owner and drug dealer. However, the story is likely to have been tweaked for the Indian audience by director Selva and Kamal Haasan.

As for the release date of the film, while it’s been stated that Thoongavanam will release in 2015, the question is whether it’s likely to be a Diwali release. According to a diktat by the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council, films with big stars can only release during 10 days of the year, including festivals.
