Fisher passed away last year on December 27 at the age of 60 and her induction to the Legends was a moving moment for the audience present at the ceremony as well as her fans across the globe.
"Carrie has been an iconic part of star wars franchise.
And she always had a very special place in our hearts. We all miss her talent, wit and her friendship. She certainly left mark on the world and her fans.
"This December we will release her final film 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' and as always she brought her trademark strength, heart and humour to the role. It is a truly legendary performance," said Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger.
Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, who was supposed to attend the ceremony, couldn't make it, citing prior work commitments, thanked Disney for fulfilling her mother's ultimate dream to be a Disney Princess.
"As far as I can remember my mom and I have been Disney fanatics. I was so obsessed with Ariel, that I wanted to change my name. We went to Disneyland so much that I now realise that she loved even more than I did.
"So, to be a part of the Disney family was an amazing moment for her. She secretly always wanted to be a Disney Princess so getting to be a Disney Princess and Disney Legend would have been her ultimate dream.
"I am grateful to Mr Iger and Disney family for the honour. And 'May the force be with you' always. Carrie 'May the force be with you'," she said in the letter read by Iger.
Hamill, 65, who played Fisher's brother Luke Skywalker in the Geroge Lucas-created universe, thanked Disney, Lucas and the fans across the world for making "Star Wars" the phenomenon it is.
Quoting baseball legend Lou Gehrig he said, " 'Today I call myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth'. It is true. I would like to thank George Lucas, thousands of people who worked behind the camera and front of the camera. Will the movies be as impactful as they are without the music of John Williams? I don't think so," Hamill said.
"The super cool space sis I have in Carrie Francis Fisher. I loved her. And we were like siblings. The good and the bad!" he added.
Apart from Fisher and Hamill, Marvel legend Stan Lee, iconic comics writer Jack Kirby, veteran comedienne Whoopi Goldberg and filmmaker Garry Marshall were among others who also received the honour.
