The fans make a musician. If not for them, I would not have sold out performances around the world. Hence, here I am. India is a country with an unquenchable thirst for dance music, so I have planned real good surprises for my fans here. Fans looking for music from me can get a small fix when I'll be playing new songs, Your Ad Here and Suckfest 9001. I will be playing my new releases as well.

We all know that your name is a result of your finding a dead rat in your computer. But why the head gear? Is it like your alter ego? The mau5head is an extension of me and that makes me exclusive. It's my novelty factor, my USP, the reason for who I am today.

Now, you have over 2.6 million followers on Twitter... Like I mentioned, fans make a musician. It feels amazing interacting with different people having different views about my music.

You have said earlier that you don't like the term EDM. Why is that? EDM for me is simply a hyped up term for 'Event Driven Marketing'. I believe that maximum people get into the genre because it's minimal work for maximum profit.

People say this is the era of dance music. Do you think the bubble is going to burst soon? Electronic music always existed, but in various phases. The history of music had the disco boom in the '70s, the New Romantics in the '80s, and so forth. Electronic music will always continue to exist, but it's popularity may fluctuate depending on the environment.

Coming back to your performance, we would like to know what do you prefer - performing with synthesisers or with a computer? Synthesisers; it's easy to put together a modular synthesiser that's so packed full of goodies that there's no room for a normal VCO (voltage control oscillator).

There was a point when you were against collaborations, but now you have made exceptions. Why is that? Is there any particular artiste, you would love to work with? Footwork is one artiste I'm really looking forward to working with. Apart from that, there are also so many good producers coming out of Toronto right now and it really makes the scene so good. And I think, why not?

Can you tell us something about your latest album - "2 cds, 2 continuous mixes and 25 tracks", is what you'd tweeted. Bravo! And that's all you get from me as of now. I would want to keep the rest under wraps until the release dates are out.

How Joel became deadmau5

My father claims that this happened when I was in my early teens. He was chatting with a friend on his computer, which abruptly shut off, claiming that it smelled like burnt wire and had a strange odour. I dismantled his computer and happened to find a dead mouse. And soon I became popular as the "dead mouse guy" among friends. I tried to change my name to "Deadmouse" in an online chat room but, since it was too long, I shortened it to "deadmau5".
