What's it about
Like Harry Potter series inspired another release Percy Jackson, similarly Mortal Instruments heavily borrows plot and theme ideas from the blockbuster Twilight series. Clary (Lily Collins) is on the search for her mother who is a covert Shadowhunter- someone who kills all creatures evil. Hidden under the city's veil of modern life is the dark underbelly of mystical werewolves, demons, etc. Clary is the only one who can see them and gets help from fellow Shadhowhunter Jace (Jamie Bower). Along the way we get ample action scenes and magical mumbo jumbo about this inspired plot.
If you enjoyed Buffy or Underworld, then City of Bones might be the right genre for you. Thankfully the film doesn't take itself so seriously. Despite her serious adventure Clary manage to have some fun along the way. Also the special effect is noteworthy.
Problem lies with the characters. While Clary plays the protagonist with the right punch, the same can't be said about the supporting cast. It is tailor made for the teenage crowd who's grown over Hannah Montana or done swooning over Justin Bieber. Lighting in some scenes a bit off, especially the one set at night.
What to do
Watch it only if you are under 20 and suffering from a bout of Twilight withdrawal.
