Most men gravitate towards the tried-and-tested kurta and churidaar look layered with a bandi jacket for festive occasions. However, there are much cooler ways to ace the classic combo which will help you own every room you walk into during Diwali card parties. Designer Pawan Sachdeva suggests, “The monotony of wearing kurta pyjama can be broken by wearing unbalanced cut shirts, asymmetrical cuts and prints and shirts with collar, cuff and detailing. Also, bombers with nice rivets and detailing can be worn. Bottoms are also something that can be experimented with like cowl pants, draped salwars, cigarette pants.”

Shibori prints rule

Pawan adds, “Instead of bandis and sherwanis men should opt for suits with prints like floral and Aztec. Also, men can also play with bright colours, printed pocket squares, lapel pins. Men can try shibori prints this season for the shirts, pocket squares, jackets and bandhgalas.”

Designer Mayyur Girortra says, “Guys need to mix and match and layer beautifully and give a fusion look. For example, a pair of ankle-length pants clubbed with a kurta and a fun jacket look of-the-moment. Complete your look with a chic pair of shoes instead of juttis.”

Focus on the fit

Designer Aanchal Bubber of Bubber Couture says, “The kurta must be well-fitted. The shoulders of the kurta must sit on your natural shoulders and shouldn’t be hanging or be so loose as to conceal your body shape. Bandis can be worn on short or long kurtas for a modern or traditional look. You can either wear bold or printed bandis with contrast or monotone simple kurtas styled either with churidars, salwars, patiala salwars, your favourite denims or even a dhoti or dhoti pants. Or opt for the reversible bandis.”

Art of accessories

Designer Sanjana Bubber adds, “There should be one or maximum two points of focus in a garment look. Too many prints or accessories look overdone and take away the classic and elegant elements from the looks.”
